About Elaine Booth-Kallweit

Elaine Booth-Kallweit Biography:

Born in Zweibruchen, Germany in the mid fifties, while father was stationed there with the Royal Canadian Air Force. My family and husbands aviation background has allowed me to experience many parts of Canada and the United States.
After military life we spent 8 years developing a diversified livestock business in the foothills of Alberta. It was the rural lifestyle that re-ignited my passion for the wilderness and wildlife. Economics and opportunity sent us back to B.C.
I now live in Maple Ridge with my husband and close to my two adult children.
Over the years I have augmented my knowledge and skills through workshops and continuing education courses.
Painting mediums are Acrylics and Water-colors. My other interests are photography, woodcarving, assemblage art, textile arts, native artifacts, home renovations and hunting. I am also a certified interior decorator and accomplished seamstress/upholsterer.

I am primarily a realist painter, with an interest in all subject matter. I am very much influenced by North American native cultures.
Some of my painting are on mdf [ medium density fiberboard] which I seal, gesso and then carve into, reseal, gesso and finally paint with acrylics, creating texture and realism to the painting. Some pieces I have applied natural materials, like straw and wasp paper.
The process is time consuming but worth it in the end and I believe this technique makes my art unique and interesting. Sitka Totem, Amid the Mist, Campagnol Nest and Wasp Nest are examples of this style.

Lately I have been creating mixed media [ collage ] artwork with found objects.

Memberships: Past member of Federation of Canadian Artists / Fraser Valley Chapter [Active Status]
Local Art Clubs, Local Art Studio Tour and Other Associations.
Also participate in art competitions, juried and group shows throughout Canada.

Some of my original paintings are held in private and corporate collections in Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Great Britain and United States.
